I’m nerdy, I was heavily into my highschool marching band, I love all fairy tales, I watch Doctor Who, have read the Harry Potter series many times, the list of my nerdy likes goes on and on. I have a gaming laptop (it’s kind of old now, children change money priorities), which leads me into today’s story I’ve been playing World of Warcraft (WoW) since the game first came out back in 2004. Yeah that’s 10 years.

Blizzard (the company behind the game) actually gave out really cool statues for those that have had an active subscription for those 10 years, unfortunately for me I took a hiatus for about a year around when Jensen was born ( you try gaming with a 1 1/2 yr old and a newborn!). You can see the cool statue here from someone who received one: http://imgur.com/cLWO2T8
How did I get into WoW?? Mr. A’s childhood friend convinced him to purchase the game and play. When Mr. A gets into something he’s all in and usually ignores everything else. We were still in college and doing the long distance thing and we’d call each other every night. Well he would play while on the phone with me and I seriously had to ask him the same question 2 or 3 times! One day I said that’s it and went to the store and bought the game just so I could have a conversation with my husband. This game is an MMORPG, which stands for Massively multiplayer online role-playing game. So you can talk to other players within the game as long as you know the person’s character name.
- One of our good friends is an avid Cosplayer, very awesome costume representing the character he plays in-game – 2008
- Our cosplayer friend dressed as Hogger
- Another cosplayer at Blizzcon 2010
- Some costumes are very elaborate!
For awhile we even went to Blizzcon, which is a convention that showcases all the games that Blizzard makes. We went in 2008, 2010, 2011, & 2013. We made lots of friends in the game too as they were friends of friends playing, unfortunately or fortunately they all live in California, which makes a great excuse to visit various areas in California. During our 2008 trip, Mr. A proposed to me (not at the con!).
- The restaurant where Mr. A proposed, this is after the proposal 🙂
- Having dinner with our guildmates
- Spending time outside of the game is just as fun as in-game
- Having a great time at Medieval times with our guildmates.
The funny thing is Mr. A doesn’t even play anymore. It’s my thing I do to de-compress at the end of the day. I will admit that less house work gets accomplished now that I’ve started playing again. I can’t believe that it’s been 10 years since I first angrily bought the game and now it’s a defining thing in my life.
